PAINTINGS

The natural world and its myriad creatures have always offered me both inspiration and motif.  After a period of primarily making woodcut prints, my return to painting coincided with the onset of the pandemic and the isolation and reflective quietness it engendered. Less caught in the rush of modern life, I became more finely attuned to the aliveness and resilience of the natural world.  Color has always captivated and inspired me.  It is the means through which I strive to capture the essence of a subject. My return to work with oil on canvas has been re-energizing.  Many of my recent paintings reflect aspects of the landscape outside my studio — fields, woods, pasture, their changing colors.  Others depict nearby places of historic interest and value. All of the paintings, the recent work and the archive catalog are oil on canvas.
