WOODCUTS

The art of woodcut appeals to me because of its physical nature… drawing on and then carving an image out of a block of wood. That process is a distillation of observation and experience and, for me, the quest to reveal an intimate and sometimes elusive truth about the subject. The immediacy and directness in the process totally engages me. The resistance of the wood imposes limitations that encourage an essential simplicity and, sometimes, a surprise, in the final print.
